Within the graduate school ModISC, the postdoc Dr. Bárbara Nogueira de Faria constructed a spectrograph for probing near infrared signatures induced by visible pumping of chromophores by femtosecond pulses. The set-up was employed to characterize a potential OLED emitter synthesized in Thomas J.J. Müllers group and exhibiting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). With the set-up, S₁→S_2,3,4.. transitions can be probed. Based on the respective transition energies, a better understanding of the intersystem crossing processes occurring in TADF emitters can be developed.
